Troubleshooting: Sound problems
If you cannot hear sound with this application, check the following:
- Do you have the sound muted? If the volume button at the top of the screen appears as
, you will not hear any sound. Click on that button to restore the sound.
- Do you have the volume in this program turned down too low? See Setting the sound volume for details.
- Can you not hear sound in activities that allow recording, particularly if you are using the Chrome browser? Certain versions of Windows, including Windows 8, may automatically reduce the volume of other sounds when any type of recording feature is active. If this setting causes an issue in the recording activities for this program, you can change it by clicking the speaker icon in your taskbar, then choosing Recording Devices. On the Sound control panel which appears, click the Communications tab, then change the When Windows detects communication activity setting to Do nothing. Click Apply, then click OK to close the control panel. Finally, click on the speaker icon in the taskbar, click Mixer, and make sure that the volume for your browser is set to an appropriate level.
- Do other programs get sound? If not, the problem may be with your speakers or your system.
- Is the sound coming through headphones while you are listening to speakers, or vice versa? Be sure you know where the computer is supposed to be producing sound.
- If your computer has external speakers, are they turned on? Is their volume turned up? Are they properly connected to your computer?
- Are your soundcard and speaker settings correct? If you cannot hear the standard sounds which come with your OS, your system may have a problem.
- If normal sound is available but the
button is not, is there an issue with your Internet connection? The SlowSound feature requires an Internet connection. The button will be grayed out when no connection is found.
