Selecting an input method
When you use a feature which requires typing in a language that has a complex writing system, such as Chinese or Korean, this program will check whether you have a way to type the necessary characters. If more than one input method is detected, you will be asked which one you prefer. You also have the option of changing your input method at any time.
To select an input method:
- Click
and choose Change input method to show the Select an Input Method screen, if it is not already displayed. This screen will automatically appear the first time each session that you try to use a feature with complex characters.
- Do one of the following on the Select an Input Method screen:
- To use the input method built into this application, choose USE THIS PROGRAM'S INPUT METHOD and see the Language-Specific information for your language. If you are not sure which option to choose, we recommend this one.
- To use the input method built into your operating system, choose USE YOUR SYSTEM'S INPUT METHOD and refer to your system's documentation for typing instructions. You may prefer this option if you are already familiar with your system's typing method, or if you will need to know how to type your foreign language in other applications in the future. Note: If you learn on more than one device, such as a laptop and a tablet, remember that the system's input method may not be the same on different OSes, and may not work on some. (For example, your tablet's operating system may not have all the built-in typing features that your laptop does.)
- When you have made your choice, click OK.
Note: Remember that most activities that allow typing have an Easy Typing switch that can be set to On or Off. If you prefer to enter answers by selecting characters instead of typing them, set the switch to On.
