Kalmyk is primarily spoken in the Republic of Kalmykia, within the Russian Federation.
If your Kalmyk lessons require you to type Kalmyk characters, follow the instructions immediately below to do so. If your lessons use transliterated Kalmyk, see the Using Transliterated Kalmyk Lessons section further down.
Kalmyk uses a Cyrillic alphabet, similar but not identical to that of Russian. Kalmyk texts in this alphabet are written from left to right, the same as English.
Some units may include transliterated Kalmyk lessons in addition to lessons which use the actual Kalmyk characters. Transliterated lessons can help you master vocabulary and pronunciation before tackling a new writing system.
You do not have to type actual Kalmyk characters in transliterated Kalmyk lessons. You can type the transliterations in any activity or assessment that requires typed answers.
The transliterated Kalmyk content may use special characters such as ä, ö, and ü. See Typing accents or special characters for instructions on typing these characters.
