Buriat is spoken in several republics within Russia (including the Republic of Buryatia), as well as in parts of northern Mongolia and northwestern China.
If your Buriat lessons require you to type Buriat characters, follow the instructions immediately below to do so. If your lessons use transliterated Buriat, see the Using Transliterated Buriat Lessons section further down.
Buriat uses a Cyrillic alphabet, similar but not identical to that of Russian. Buriat text is written from left to right, the same as English.
Some units may include transliterated Buriat lessons in addition to lessons which use the actual Buriat characters. Transliterated lessons can help you master vocabulary and pronunciation before tackling a new writing system.
You do not have to type actual Buriat characters in transliterated Buriat lessons. You can type the transliterations in any activity or assessment that requires typed answers.
The transliterated Buriat content may use special characters such as ö. See Typing accents or special characters for instructions on typing these characters.
