Things to know about Zulu

Zulu is part of the Nguni subgroup of the Bantu languages, which belong to the larger Niger-Congo language family. It is one of the 11 official languages of South Africa, where the majority of its speakers can be found.

Typing in Zulu

Zulu is written in a variation of the Latin alphabet. Because Zulu does not use any accent marks or special characters, you can type in Zulu the same way you would type in English.

Listening to Zulu

As you work with your Zulu lists, pay special attention to the tones used by the native speakers when they pronounce each word. Different tones can change a word's meaning. Also remember that, while many Zulu letters sound approximately like their equivalents in English, others are less similar. The letters c, q, and x, for example, represent three distinct click sounds.
